Anyone know how to take apart a window?

I thought it was only a storm window that was broken by the storm last Monday, but it's the outer pane of a dual pane vinyl window.
I spent some time struggling with it tonight but couldn't figure out if there was a way to release the bottom part of the sash (it was way not a one person job, either).
I think it's basically this window:

Probably something like 40" wide by 80" tall . . .
Clarifying questions appreciated . . .

h', I have that same brand of window. Never needed to replace a pane but I'm sure if you call them (888.504.0005) they can tell you how to handle it. I've called a couple times for replacement hardware and they were very friendly and pleasant.

Well, I'm not 100% sure it's American Craftsman, but I just called and there's a serial number I need to get off of it, and they fax the order to my local Home Depot, and it's about $80 for the sash at the most (pretty darn big window-- a bit nervous about that). Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the helpful response!!
