Good News/ Bad News

Mrs. cbelt3's chronic conditions have gotten her down. Very down. That's the bad news. Nothing life threatening, but Rheumatoid Arthritis (in her spinal column) and Diverticulitis at the same time are debilitating and miserable. That's the bad news.

So she's decided to stop working full time, and perhaps work towards retiring in full by the end of the year. That's the bad news, AND the good news.

We can (mostly) afford it.. cutting back a few things, slowing down investment, switching insurance back to my company's plan (a bit more expensive, but...), and so forth. I suggested that she activate FMLA, and she's done that to take a week or two to recover and decide.

It's nice to see her smiling every now and then, and moving around the house as she slowly recovers. Working never gave her the chance to recover properly... she's the kind of person who gives 110% at work, but she had nothing left by the time she got home.

At the end of the day her health and happiness are worth far, far more than the salary she was bringing home. Fortunately I'm secure at work, doing well, the company never lays people off, so I feel relaxed at having one wage-earner again.

Those conditions can be depressing, for sure. Wishing you guys the best - I hope she can find some relief.

Take good care of her, after all, she's tolerated you for all these years! Also, best of luck, illness is tough. Cutting back and enjoying a life not tied to the rat race is good.

Hope Mrs. CB gets to feeling better quickly. My husband has back issues, and I know they can be very debilitating and painful.

It's wonderful that you feel secure financially (I suppose as much as anyone can these days), and that your job/health insurance are secure. A lot of the credit probably belongs to you - I suspect you and your wife have been working for years and have been thoughtful financial planners.

Prayers for you CB3 and your wife. May this be the proper road for y'all to take. It always helps, being a proper, stand up family. From your posts you have given much of your time and resources to others... may that come back to bless you and yours.

I can relate to your issues Cbelt.

My wife has Lupus, Fibermyalga and a constant headache. She is only 46 and while I would love for her to stop working, it will be another 10 years before that can be considered. It breaks my heart to see what she goes through everyday.

Best of luck to you both, may you both enjoy the coming years.

my wife's in a similar situation to yours, Ombligo.

Fibromyalgia (we think), possibly R.A., not to mention gluten sensitivity (not tested for Celiac yet).

and a couple years younger.

I can relate. On the day my vacation started, my back went out, I had severe muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders, and diverticulitis decided to kick in with a sharp pain in the left side.

A week and a half later I'm finally feeling better again.

There is no joy when you are in pain.

Was hoping the good news was that you won the lotto, and the bad news was that the waiting list for the Ferrari was up to eleven months...

take care, your good spirits give you the upper hand.
