If a person has an unlocked iPhone running on T-Mobile ...

and that person wants to use it as a GPS as well. How would he go about it? This would be a pay-as-you-go plan, so no cellular data. For the purpose of this purely hypothetical exercise, the iPhone would be a 3GS running 5.1.1.

Purely hypothetical of course. I'd never hack any Apple product.

Buy a GPS app that has maps built-in. No data needed for directions/maps. Some will have optional traffic and other features that would require data.

That was sort of the plan. I suppose I was really wondering if anybody had tried any of them.

A-GPS might use a bit of data for the initial lock. Want to be safe, disable mobile data. Offline should work well enough. Lock wil be slower.
