We have lots of storm damage. Hope everyone else is ok.

Still trying to dig out from last night's storm in Ohio. Hid in the basement for quite a while. Worst I've ever seen. Many large trees down. a 12" branch flew 40 feet and smashed the front half of my car. Windshield, hood, bumper, quarter panel, all screwed. Porch roof on the house smashed from similar tree falls. Lots of smaller objects damaged or missing. Thankfully main house structure and all occupants are fine. Looks like 500,000 here with no power and it could be up to a week here in the rural areas and it is expected to by 95 degrees here all week. Looks like a war zone. I'll post pics when I can.

According to local news, it was a derecho that rolled through Virginia last night.
Wikipedia says, "A derecho (Spanish: derecho "straight"winking smiley, is a widespread and long-lived, violent convectively induced straight-line windstorm that is associated with a fast-moving band of severe thunderstorms in the form of a squall line usually taking the form of a bow echo. Derechos blow in the direction of movement of their associated storms, similar to a gust front, except that the wind is sustained and generally increases in strength behind the "gust" front. A warm weather phenomenon, derechos occur mostly in summer, especially June and July in the Northern Hemisphere. They can occur at any time of the year and occur as frequently at night as in the daylight hours."
There was a photo accompanying the article that reminded me of the one OWC Jamie posted yesterday.

Glad you're ok, that's the main thing. Try not to get overwhelmed or over heated straightening things up.
This heat is brutal all over the East.

Yikes! Where in Ohio are you? We were in Dayton at the Air Force
Museum when the storm rolled through. Everyone had to be moved to the main auditorium for a while.

Sorry about your damage, arch, but you and family being safe is the important part.

Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated?

Having been through 2 major earthquakes and a mudslide, I agree, the family safety is the thing.

Hug each other a lot.

Sorry you had so much damage. Power can be restored pretty quickly nowadays although a day without power is a long time if your freezer is thawing but 4kW generators have become reasonable in price lately.

While driving home on I-75 south today, we passed many many caravans of Southern Company/GA Power trucks heading north. Probably passed about 2-3 dozen (or more) of these trucks.
