Will Apple ever fix the MobileMe/iCloud clusterf*ck or do we just have to bend over for them?

This issue has pissed me off to no end with Apple and of course it's come to a head today.

Those of us with iTunes accounts different from our mobileme account (@mac.com or @me.com) have not been provided with a solution to our problem of being forced to migrate to iCloud without the ability to combine or somehow integrate our iTunes account (which, for me is tied to my gmail.com email) and our MobileMe account for which I've paid Apple handsomely for probably 7 or 8 years now.

I can't change my gmail iTunes account to use my @mac/me.com email because Apple automatically created an iTunes account for those when they started this transition, so that's out of the question.

Apple has repeatedly said they'd find a way to deal with this and, as many of us expected, just keep feeding us the same BS line with, what appears to be, no intention of actually doing anything for us.

I'm pissed about this but I guess I have to just bend over and take it from Apple given I'm now so tied to my @mac.com email and have HUNDREDS (I feel bad for those with THOUSANDS) of dollars of iTunes purchases on my gmail.com iTunes account.

This is one issue where I would actually tell Tim Cook to @#$%& off and that he's sold the user base that's been with Apple for more than a decade up the creek and have TAKEN our paddles!

Anyone else dealing with this as frustrated as I, or have you found a way to actually deal with this situation?

I don't see what the problem is? Use the iCloud ID for iCloud and the Store ID in the store. It isn't that hard. The sign in for those are in different places on the iPhone and your iCloud account doesn't have to be the same as your iTunes store account. My iCloud and itunes store IDs are different and it doesn't cause me any problems.

Yup, what's one more sign-in ID and another password.

Well except the stupid iTunes password requirements are now a PITA... seven letters, one capitol, one numeral, nothing used in the last year. I know it doesn't sound like much but I'm just sick of password BS from everywhere (my work has us change every 10 weeks, half the company said screw it and now use Password1, Password2, Password3, etc..)

agree smiley

I see the biggest problem is calling them all "Apple IDs" If they had called them User Names it would be less confusing.

The reason for the more secure password requirements is the increasing about of dollars running through iTunes. More will be on the way.

Also, if peoples easy passwords got hacked as easy as Yahoos--people would blame Apple, and it would be big news, even though it stems from lame/easy passwords.

I have been able to keep my original XXXX.mac Apple ID and a simple <8 character password since I have never needed to reset. I am upgrading my password to make it more robust as we speak.

Apple does need to allow merged Apple IDs.

Point taken, but how secure is your password when you have to keep a text file containing it? Most people don't use a password utility.

Oddly I had the same experience. And migrated all my iCloud to my iTunes account. Problem solved. I'll let my nice mac dot com and me dot com email addresses languish, collecting Apple offers and whatnot. I log into them via webmail every now and then.

I have problems now because I have business and personal accounts. Eg, my apple developer account is needed to install Xcode, but my iTunes stuff is tied to a different account. I also have personal apps and business apps. The current system is designed assuming they're one and the same.

You can't fault Apple for that. In Theory, if you are doing Dev work you should have a different login and password on your computer to keep the Dev(work) and personal(home) stuff separate. Ditto with iOS devices, they kind of expect you to keep home and work somewhat separate.

Not really. They all used to be separate, and it worked well. You could have your dev account, and your iTunes account. They weren't linked. The you could listen to your music while you worked. I don't think there's any theory that you would buy your music once for home use, and again to listen to a work.

It worked well for the ~10 years they weren't linked.
