Hi,

I recently entered a competition and won a MacBook Pro which came with a full boxed version (not upgrade) of Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection (Mac). I kept the laptop, but have no need for the software.

Not trying to sell it here, but would like some advice on what to do with it. I know I'm never going to get into it myself, and it's a shame to see it just sitting here unopened. Is there a forum people use for selling boxed software?

I'm not an ebay seller, so that's not an option. Craigslist? I'm in a rural area, so no Mac's listed, let alone software.

Any ideas?

Pretty easy to become an ebay seller! You could list on CL in areas outside yours, if you're willing to take the risk of payment fraud. Where are you located?

Hi there, thanks. I stumbled across it doing a general 'Mac forum' search with keywords such as buys and deals in. Took a quick glance on lowendmac.com, thanks, I'll be sure to give it a go, but of course I'm still open to other sites from members. The only problem with Ebay is that I'd have no feedback, so I'm worried people would think it was a pirated copy. Also, not going to lie, they take a big cut and its pretty expensive software. I'm in the countryside just off Somerset in the UK.

I doubt that you'll have any luck except by selling on ebay. There are few people who'd be foolish enough to send their hard earned money to a stranger without having some kind of buyer's assurance (i.e. ebay registration) that the buyer is legit. There is absolutely no reason that you can't sign up on ebay and sell it there. It's easy and free to sign up and the fee for selling something like that is negligible.

Of course, you could offer to send the box before receiving payment, but then that would be you trusting a stranger. Are you willing to do that?

If you're a law student then you should be in a university somewhere and there's always a ready market for this there.

eBay + PayPal fees together average about 8-10% for me (for computers/electronics, not sure if software is higher off-hand). You can also sell on Amazon. It's easy to list on Amazon, but the fees in some categories are even higher than eBay.

If you take real photos of the product, showing it to be sealed, maybe even put a piece of paper with your ebay ID written on it in the photos (so bidders know you took the photos), you should do ok on eBay if you do an auction style listing with low starting price. May not get the highest price, but I'd bet there aren't a lot of auction listings for CS6, so you could start a little bidding war. Of course, that's how I'd expect things to go in the US. Not sure if the same would hold true on eBay UK since the market is presumably a bit smaller. You could list/cross-list on eBay US, but US bidders might be put off by long shipping times and foreign transactions.

ebay will work well... describe it WELL... take pictures of the actual product for sale. You won't get anywhere near retail value, but there is a HUGE demand for ANYTHING cheaper than retail.

Can he sell it on Amazon ?

At the risk of sounding like an ass, you got this software for free, and you're insisting on getting 100% of top dollar for it? I'm a grad student too, but you're talking about free money here.

Not many of us here from the UK and I've just got back from a few days in Somerset myself.

Someone regularly sells the student and teacher version on eBay for about £500, you would get about £450 after fees. Is yours the S&T version?

I'm not sure that Amazon allows secondhand software and they would probably class it as that. You could try the graphics department at the university/college, someone there might want it.
