An interesting chart: PC to Mac sales ratio plummets

What we’re to understand from this situation is that there are around 16 PC computers sold- that’s every other kind of computer you can think of for the home or business, essentially – for every one Mac sold. Those are current day numbers. Compare that to 2004 when that number was closer to 50 to 1 and you’ll see the big difference right away – did you see this coming?

Breaking this chart down to the United States, it’s a lot closer to an amazing 3 to 1 ratio as Apple’s main focus strikes true in its home country.

And when you include iPad sales -- it's a computer, right? -- whoa, Nellie!

What it is, man, a low-down and funky feelin'

I frequent my local Apple Store rather regularly, so I'm not surprised by these reports. In the past what - ten years alone of just Apple Store shopping, I've noticed a tremendous change in the clientele and volume, which anecdotally tells me that Apple's market share has been increasing dramatically.

I remember the days of dusty, mouseless Performas in the dark corners of Sears. We've come a long way, baby.

I remember shopping for my first PowerMac 6100/60 at Sears, Best Buy and CompUSA. Pretty much nothing about the Mac is the same now as it was then, so yes we have come a very long way.

I remember buying my first Mac, a 128K, in 1984. But we started buying Apples in 1979 - a 16K Apple ][+.

Maybe we should start a poll as to the next PC manufacturer to bow out or be bought.

There aren't many name brands left--just Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba. Who have I missed?

I think Sony is the next one likely to throw in the towel then Acer.
