Do we know what time of day on the 5th (here on Earth) that the rover will be landing on Mars?

I believe it said like 10:30PM EDT on the 5th.

I've worked with Adam off and on for over a decade. He's a great guy. My signature is on the lander, and I guess that means the martians will come looking for me for all our litter someday. But that's OK, I have Slim Whitman on my iPod, just in case.

Way to go Racer X, Congrats ! Had a friend who's dad did something over at JPL, I went a few times and was amazed at the work being done. It's an impressive field in which you work.

The thing that did bother me was the negative attitude. "If this doesn't happen precisely", or " If that doesn't work right". It's almost as if they're building in an excuse for failure.

They're speaking from experience... Most of the Mars missions that have failed, failed between orbital entry and landing. A couple, like (IIRC) Beagle 2 got as close as a few dozen meters from the surface before disaster happened ( faulty accelerometer cut the landing rertros when it was still 30-50 meters up....CRASH, ).

Got my calendar marked and my. Fingers crossed!

Minor correction... The Beagle 2 failure is unknown... It was Mars Polar Lander that thought it was "down" when it was 40 meters up and cut engines.

yup, bounce on the landing legs when deployed in a very low density atmosphere caused the microswitches to trip. Crater time.....

But at least the had the whole metric vs english measurements consistant this time. That was damn embarassing.
