Just found out that the Applecare for my iP4 has expired ... question is whether or not I can (or should) renew, or if there are better alternatives out there... or if I should just wait for iP5...

Wait for iP5.

You can't renew after it has expired.

You must purchase an AppleCare plan during your original warranty period. AppleCare+ for iPhones must be purchased within 30 days of your phone purchase.

You may be able to obtain breakage/loss insurance via 3rd party.

Many traditional insurance companies now offer such policies. There are also small electronic insurance specialists. Worth may have a policy for you. (Too late for my favorite, SquareTrade.)

You should confirm with any insurer that the policies are available to out-of-warranty devices before making a purchase on their web site. Sometimes the terms aren't very clear until after the payment is processed.

SafeWare insurance? It should be considered a computer peripheral AFAIK.

Hi all, my experience is that they allow you to buy the Applecare so long as it's not too long after it expired. The question is whether I can continue to get Applecare for another year or two (and whether or not I should).

Apple only offers 2 years for Apple Care for the iPhone.

You blew it. They're very rigid about AppleCare for iPhones nowadays.

They let me buy regular Appe Care for my iphone4S when I had a faulty sensor. That gave me the option for an advanced replacement without shipping. Net cost was 50 bux or so.

That's not what the Apple rep I spoke to today said (about my "blowing it" ) ...

But the two years of coverage, that's in ADDITION to the one year warranty, or including it?

My Apple Care purchase was still within the first year but after the 30 day window was closed for apple care plus.

The two years is total - not like apple care for computers, which goes to three years.

Nope. The AppleCare I had on it just expired. Looks like I bought it back in 2010, so I had a total two years of coverage, including the original one-year warranty.

If you had two years of coverage then you had extended coverage and you must have purchased the extra year. You don't get more. That's it. You won't be able to extend your AppleCare warranty any further.
