Beware: I got a new Paypal Phishing Scam - Very Good - almost worked...

A few minutes ago, I received what looked like a legitimate Paypal Confirmation e-mail for payment of a Car Engine on eBay Motors to the tune of $880.64 USD.

Everything looked just like a normal payment confirmation in typical Paypal e-mail format.

Purchased From:arleyleghorn
Item #8011630067
Item Title: ENGINE Acura Legend *Warranty* LOW MILES C32A Motor
Quantity: 1
Price: $600.01 USD
Subtotal: $600.01 USD
Shipping & Handling via Standard Delivery to 283XX
(includes any seller handling fees): $265.00 USD
Shipping Insurance (optional): $15.63 USD
Total: $880.64 USD

It also gives Shipping Information to some Auto SHop in Fayetteville, NC.

It also says:

If you haven't authorized this charge, click the link below

That is the Phishing part, No secure Https

I log into my account from another window to make sure my account hasn't been hijacked. It is still okay, my measly $13 and change is still there, no overdraft to my connected account.

I go back to the email and notice that the Auction ended in November.

[cgi.ebay.com]

The shock of seeing a LEGITIMATE LOOKING outrageous charge against your Paypal may cause you to panic.

Almost worked (and it probably will work on some).

Phishers are getting slicker and slicker.

I forwarded it to Spoof @ Paypal. Wow, they work fast.

I wonder where the spoofer is. If he/she is in the US, isn't that a case for the FBI?

Whenever I get a bill from an eBay purchase I always go to PayPal via the main portal and pay for it via my account there.

I still stand by the fact that if it was not addressed to me, by name, then it wasn't from Paypal or eBay. Therefore it is deleted. Always.

Also, if you get any phone call about any account, credit card or whatever... give no information. Confirm nothing.. Get all of the information you can and tell them you'll call back on the account's 1-800 number.

Some of the phone-based scams are VERY slick.

Don't ask who the bell's for, dude. It's you.

Sure, or the NSA.

I've received a couple of those. I usually just go to the item number, which either doesn't exist or some old ended auction. I must admit the first time I saw one, I almost fell for it, but I don't think it would work because I would never enter my PW via a link. I would always access that page directly myself.
