Anyone purchase a MBP RT with 8GB RAM?

Any regrets for not getting the 16GB? Do you notice a lag when you have several things running simultaneously?

With my wife's MBA C2D 2.13, I can run several things at once without too much of a performance hit.

I hate the idea of such a whopping bit of hardware stuck on 8GB forever... it's just wrong...

If I'm going to be stuck with with whatever RAM a MacBook comes with I'm going to pop for the Max.

The only downside to this is that ordering 16GB immediately makes it a "custom" build. So if there's a problem that pops up in the first 90 days, Apple won't simply exchange the unit as they would if it was just a stock model.

It's also unclear how much the SSD may offset the need for higher capacity RAM.

To answer the question, however, bfd hasn't noticed an unusual number of page outs or any kind of noticeable lag when running several RAM eating programs like PS, AI and PowerPoint. It will be interesting to see how Mountain Lion changes this, however.

There is a special education MBPR build for $1999 that has 8GB RAM as the only option.

If I cold live with that amount of SSD, I think the 8 GB RAM would not be a big limitation.

If you order that build from Apple, you can get it with 16GB for an extra $180.

But Apple Store won't have that model with 16GB as a walk-in item, you'd likely have to special order it online.

It's unfortunate that you can't special order that model with a higher capacity SSD.

I got the 16GB so I don't know what 8GB feels like.

I think that upgrading to 16GB is a no-brainer.

If you keep this laptop for at least 3 years, upgrading to 16GB only costs $60 a year (a little more if you're buying at the non-discounted rate).

I think I could live with the 256GB SSD better than the 8GB ram limitation.

Each succeeding OS seems to do more heavy lifting. Video, photography, dictation, and who knows what's next, will just continue to eat more and more ram.

Every single response mirrors my feelings.

If you *could* upgrade the MBP4 like any other 'Book, no problem with starting out at 8G, especially if you hang onto Mac iron for more than one model upgrade.

The exception would be for a tea-totaling very lightweight user who watches the coin purse closely.

Otherwise, bumping the RAM on a machine that can't be (reasonably) upgraded for $100 seems like the way to go.
