On Migration from an earlier system, how not to screw it up?

Hi,

I'm migrating from Snow Leopard to Lion.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. but is there any risk in importing system files from an earlier version — or does the migration tool automatically pick up everything and determine what to import and what to ignore?

Thanks.

I would run MA after first running software update in Lion.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

Another question....

Why are you upgrading to Lion today when Mountian Lion is being released tomorrow?

I just bought a new MBP and I'm trying to get all the apps and needed files off the previous (Snow Leopard) machine.

Once that's done I'll deal with Mountain Lion.

Thanks.

If you install Lion on top of SL, no migration is needed.

If you install Lion on an empty drive, use Migration Assistant at the first opportunity. The only risk is bringing over wonky User preferences and apps that won't work in Lion.

Mr. Curmudgeon, on Mountain Lion.
