I know these are not iPhones, but if you had to buy one of these, which one?

Don't know about those, but you do know you can buy an iPhone 3G for less than those, unlock it and use it on T-Mobile?

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands...

Over the course of the year, the service and data cost far more than the actual phone. A lesser phone seems like a poor place to cut corners.

The way my wife and saved is by downgrading to non-smart phones and buying AT&T iPads with just $15 per month for data (no contract either).

We're saving bundle compared to what we were spending on our "bargain" Androids. And of course the iPad's far better for 'Net access than even the best Android (or iPhone, for that matter).

I bought the Exhibit 2 4g from Amazon to use with my prepaid T-Mobile.
It uses Android 2.3 which had just come out at the time. It is fairly fast and a decent entry level smart phone if you read some reviews. I am waiting on a co-worker to buy the iPhone 5 when it appears so I can buy their 3gs and unlock it.

I've got a Samsung t139, paid $20 for it at Target, it works fine as a basic phone.

If you don't want a smart phone the Samsung t139 mentioned by Yoyodyne is a good phone. I bought 2 while on sale at Target for the family.

I bought a Tracphone (LG brand) for $40 bucks which looks a lot like that Samsung Galaxy, with a touchscreen and all. That and my triple-the-time for $20 every three months more than takes care of my mobile needs.
But i still have a landline which i use at home.

Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated?
Zen is not easy. It takes effort to attain nothingness. And then what do you have? Bupkes.

But only @ 2G speeds in nearly all of the U.S.

I bought a LG Optimus T for $100 (included a $50 refill) and put it on the 100 minute/unlimited text/5GB of 3G data/unlimited 2G data $30/month plan.

Using GrooveIP over 3G with my Google Voice number (the only number I share) the 100 minute limit isn't a problem.

An iPhone 3G is not a better option unless you like being stuck at 4.2.1 with an increasingly smaller selection of apps. Crappy camera to boot. You might as well buy one of those Galaxies listed. Shoot, even the Prism or possibly the Exhibit might be alright as well. Depends on the need really.

For my own T-Mobile network compatible phone, I went a different route and grabbed a Nokia N8 for $184ish. Used, but essentially new. Great camera, okay OS. Works fine for my needs and the build quality is pretty impressive (screen is nice, even if the res isn't very high for today's smartphones).

Might not hurt to check with deals on phones through Amazon, Warehouse Deals, Newegg, eBay, etc.

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g to type this. It's no iPhone but it works very well. I'd recommend it.
