Motorola Docsis SB 5100 Modem power source question

I am trying to get this Motorola SB5100 working for my parents but I cannot find the original power plug. On the back of the modem it only says 12V DC. I found an Apple airport extreme power plug that says 12V 1.5ma in it. Without plugging it into the wall, I inserted the plug into the modem and it fits. WIll this power source work or am I going to fry something?

Here are the specs I could find on the modem: [www.newegg.com]

1.5A, not mA.

It will most likely work, check polarity, make sure it matches. it should be (-) outer shell, (+) center pin. Ocasionally you see one that is backwards, but those are rare.

I have a 1.6A adapter powering mine for years.

I have heard, that you can exceed the amperage, just don't use less amperage.

0.6 amp is less than 0.75 amp, the required current rating. Get something that has a rating of 0.75 amp or greater. The modem will only draw what it needs, but you must assume it will need 0.75 amp.

wrong information!

0.6A is what power supply takes from the wall. has nothing to do with the cable modem.

that power supply will output 1.25A, whish is more than the modem needs.

pRICE cUBE, that power supply should work
