Any issues with the "beeping" that occurs with power on and connecting? Is it really as loud and/or annoying as some of the reviewers made it out to be? Thanks.

The pic is of the non-BT version for scale, but they're identical in appearance. The sound is *very* good, though a touch bassy for my tastes. Still I use it several times a week.
But you *did* stipulate best.
If you're not married to the BT idea, something like *this* might be worth consideration:

Add a few feet of simple patch cable and it could be very suitable for bedside audio. Stereo is really not relevant in a small speaker or speaker set. I've got three of these and they sound quite decent.
Somebody online had them for $20 apiece, so I got three, just because they're handy. No AC adapter though. You'll have to dig one up.
Also, if there's no need to share the audio, a pair of good headphones could give you actual stereo if that's a consideration, at a modest price.
