Favorite Smiths Song?

This is close to the top of my list. Such a sweet melody but sardonic lyrics. Morrissey is such a punk!

One of my favorite songs, period, but not Smiths.
Probably "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" for me.

How Soon Is Now

Nothing even comes close. Johnny Marr's haunting guitar is unforgettable.

That's also high up on my list. This is interesting:

"While recording, Marr created the oscillating guitar effect that plays throughout the track, a rhythm that has been compared to the song "Mona" originally recorded by Bo Diddley and subsequently by The Rolling Stones."

How Soon Is Now was always the song that even non-Smiths fans liked. I always had an appreciation for the tune back in the day but it was nowhere near my top 5 (or maybe even top 10).

They are my favorite band to ever have formed and it'd be impossible for me to list a single favorite track. I'm just pleased others recognize their brilliance. I hate when people ask for a favorite song by a band and then someone goes and posts like a dozen tunes. So, here ya go winking smiley

Bigmouth Strikes Again will always be up there for me:

Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before is a perfect blend of lyrics and melody.

As a proponent of animal rights, Meat Is Murder will always have a special place for me. Single-handedly getting people to think and turning countless numbers to vegetarianism.

The 2012 live version of the tune has an appropriately more violent tinge to it at the 4 minute marke and is good in its own right:

Death Of A Disco Dancer... "Love, peace & harmony... oh, very nice... but maybe in the next world"

Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want is easily one of the best and this Mozzer live version is the dogs @#$%&, as they say.

What Difference Does It Make?

The Queen Is Dead (again, sorry it's the semi-recent live version. It was just such a great show and to open with this was incredible.). "Has the world changed or have I changed?"

Ok, I'll stop... my apologies. I could have gone on and on, though.

How Soon is Now is certainly likeable/great.iconic, but I still hear it on the radio enough that it's just 'there' regardless of my feelings for it...

I used to love The Smiths. But now that I'm no longer a sullen young man I don't listen to them much anymore. Cemetry Gates, The Boy With The Thorn In His Side and Girlfriend In A Coma were some of my favs. Although my girlfriend at the time always hated Girlfriend In A Coma.
