Wonky SD slot, or SD card(s)...?

2011 MBP, rolled back to SL, seems to like SanDisk Extreme SD cards in the built in slot, but doesn't seem to like our Patriot SD cards. All cards work fine in USB reader on same machine. When booted from FW800 external, running Lion (10.7.4), MBP recognizes the same Patriot cards w/o incident. Why can't everyone just be friends? No desire to upgrade MBP past SL for the foreseeable future, so I guess the question is wazzup w/ the SD slot being finicky in 10.6.8 on this otherwise desireable unibody, and what's the best fixit trick?
Thanks.

Card readers work fine... it's the discrepancy between SL and Lion when using the built-in SD slot w/ different SD cards that is at issue. Thanks.

Did you read his post?

He said he already has a USB reader that the card works in.

Mr. Curmudgeon, on Mountain Lion.
