Anybody still using Dashboard Widgets?

Still using them? I read an article recently how it's almost a dead part of Mac OS X and it was surprising that Apple didn't kill it off for Mountain Lion.

So, if you still use them, which ones?

I do — weather, volume/area etc., converter, currency, iStat, quick language translation, stock list and 4 clocks with the times across the world where I know people.

I like them, but I also used to use the “under the Apple” Desk Accessories in System 6 and System 7 often
as well, and I like this even better, since they show up on the screen and there are so many more to choose from.

I use the flight tracker if I’m expecting someone (I use it as a way to time departure to the airport, actually).

There is so much there that is stock - I’ve only added two or three - and they just happened to have a module for that in addition to their app. If I had a bigger screen or dual monitors running, I’d probably
load a few more, but laptop screen real estate is scarce.

I'm with the 'poo... I also use TuneText, A Dashboard Widget displays lyrics of the song currently playing in iTunes. If you don't have lyrics data, TunesTEXT searches online lyrics databases and download lyrics automatically. Requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. (Freeware)

Still use them for weather, stocks, calculator... Use to use more, but found a core group that I consistently use and disabled the rest.

Daily; all the time. Radar In Motion, Delivery Status, AccuWeather, several Calendars (this month and next), conversions (currency, measurements, etc.). Many have been matched by iPhone/iPad apps but the info is a single tap away when I'm at my Mac.

I haven't used them for years, until just now.

This one is not much fun...

Love em. Weather, Radar, Just added tune text, Calandar, Refurb Me. I use the 3rd mouse button to bring them up, floating over whatever is on my desk. PC users think it just "cool". They are right.

Absolutely still use them, on my 2 Macs, and my wife uses a number of them on her iMac.

All those the others mentioned plus a few more i've added. Check them a number of times each day. Most of the Mac users I know use Dashboard often.

Haven't used since a month or two after they showed up... anything that a widget can do can be done in a different way just as well without shutting yourself out from the rest of your computer.

But they don't get in my way and people would have raged if it had been dropped - someone ALWAYS rages when some little nothings get dropped, so best to just keep it in the OS...

Never really use them. I liked Yahoo Widgets (Konfabulator) a lot, and am sad that it's pretty much over now. Still use the older Yahoo weather widget.

How do you get them to float over your current desktop? When I activate Dashboard, the widgets open up on a new "desktop."

Actually just figured it out...I had the Dashboard set up to use a "space." I unchecked that and it's now floating.

I do--multiple copies of Weather, a currency converter, the calendar, and Ambrosia's handy EasyEnvelopes. I will use others (e.g. Flight Tracker) temporarily as required.

I definitely do. Particularly the Weather and Dictionary apps. I especially like that on the Dictionary app, it gives both the Webster and Apple versions, as well as a thesaurus.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the F@H WUdget. Use it all the time to monitor current status of Folding@Home Work Units.

I use them all the time... in 10.6. In 10.7 they're a lot more tedious to get to. I use the calculator, dictionary, thesaurus, converter... all much easier than having to find/install/launch an individual app for each.

Every day, although I have to say a weather app that pegs today's high at 94º while showing the current temp at 102º is a bit wonky.

Oh yeah—weather, baseball scores, a widget that makes it easy to add items to calendar, and a file shredder widget that is just so cool.
