Is anyone using Mac the Ripper 3 or 4?

If so, how do you like it? Worth the hoops through which one must jump in order to get it?

I'm still finding 2.6.6 mostly OK for my needs, so I'm curious about whether getting a more recent version is worth the hassle.

Switched to Ripit a long time ago to avoid the games the MTR author forced you to play.

Ripit here also- does everything I need and more. They seem to do a good job of updating it. I also use Mac DVD Ripper Pro a lot. Between the 2 I haven't had anything they won't touch, and also don't have the craziness associated with the MTR developers.

RipIt still has problems creating burn-friendly rips. Both Toast and the DU have trouble with them.

If you're using the software to make travel-copies of your DVDs or to save discs that your kids are on the verge of destroying then you're better off with MtR.

I have been using since it was upgraded because I found ver 2 was not working for me. I really like it altho I have a lifetime membership to anydvd.com for the pc which is the best. Sometimes a DVD won't work with one or the other so I like to have two versions for ripping.

What Hoops are you talking about. I have always PAID for MTRer but then I am one of those souls that pays for shareware.

Once you have installed it , run it and it will request that you either request a license , or install a license. To Request The license fill in the presented e-mail with your payment transaction code. This is necessary as it is used to generate a unique license that you will receive by return e-mail.

I also have RipIt but haven't used it much, and haven't ever tried to burn a backup disc from what it rips.

I tried to buy MtR3, but got hung up in the hoops (paying for it was the problem) and just said F/I. The author had personal problems a while back which further complicated the process.

I use RipIt from time to time and only burned a disc twice, via Toast, and had no problems. With Netflix TVs and DVD players, I don't loan out DVDs much so there's little need to burn.

Ripping BDs is still a mystery to me. I know I'll need a BD external drive for my mini, but what software holds the Most Favored title?

I bought a Pioneer USB powered BD drive, use MakeMKV to rip and HandBrake to encode. It's not ideal
but it works. I'm still having trouble with Subtitles. When my trial runs out I'll probably looking for a
one shot program to rip and encode Blu-Rays or just start purchaseing an HD version through iTunes.

BTW: MakeMKV is no longer free, it's a 30 day trial.

Also why don't more people use HandBrake to rip and encode reg. DVD's? I just got finished ripping
and encoding about 400 DVD's with HandBrake to M4V for iTunes? My days of backing up my DVD's
is over, the day of AppleTV has come. The days of a physical disc are numbered ;-)

I'm with Grateful. I use Handbrake for standard DVD decodes, MakeMKV followed by handbrake for BRs.

If you set Handbrake to 'high profile', the mp4s are terrific.

Just make sure your VLC is up-to-date, and that it's loaded and operational before you use Handbrake.
