During a discussion on child and healthcare benefits at Google, Chief People Officer Laszlo Bock told Forbes that the company had just last year announced a new perk for staff. If you pass away while employed by Google, your spouse will get 50 percent of your salary for a decade. Google will also give your children a $1,000 monthly payment until they reach 19 (longer if they are a full-time student), and all stocks will be vested immediately.

Life insurance . Many companies offer it. Not at the Epic level. However.. Die AT work in an accident ... Family is set for their lives. My company did that for a guy who was electrocuted in the factory . First fatal accident in 25 years (previous was a fire..)

For the amount of money that Google makes and how much free press they are getting over that program, it is a bargain for them. Even though they are not front page news as much as when they had their IPO, they are still VERY profitable (my accountant was part of a team that did an audit at Google last year hes said they are rolling in cash).

As cbelt said, it is an unique insurance policy that probably pays this out, not Google (although Google probably pays the hefty premiums).
