None of those six cars held any appeal for me, at all.

And I'm not at all adverse to spending imaginary money on cars that I will never be able to own. I've no hate for cars that race the fuel gauge needle to Empty or who's sticker exceeds the GNP of some countries.

So I won't be selling any of my imaginary shares of AAPL anytime soon.

Even a Hoover Wagon only required 1.

You know, the Tata Nano and Bajaj RE60 are tantalizingly close to being useful...
$2500-$2750 retail, oodles of MPG...
If they were just a HAIR bigger (for my broad shouldered and overweight frame), came in Automatic, and was highway legal (43mph top speed is useless to me... getting to work requires a highway)....

If it was twice as expensive, I fit inside, automatic, and topped out at 65-70mph, with 60-70 mpg, I'd go to the dealership with my checkbook...

The rest of those cars? Nah... Even if I HAD that kind of money, I've got far more interesting things to do with it.

It fits my 5'4" frame fine. Still, I need one that is highway legal because I do need to get to those places at times.

I am with you on that.

Eh, if it was bigger, came in an auto, met US requirements, drove 70mph... it'd be at least $10k. You probably forget things like traction control are a legal requirement in the US. There's a whole ton of things that are legally required which make cars a lot more expensive to buy and maintain and repair.

Yes, U.S. regulations do increase weight, reduce mileage, and almost double costs of inexpensive cars. This is why the $4,000 "cars" made/sold in China do not make it here. One reason Geely bought Volvo (besides for the prestiege) was for access to their safety tech. It is going to allow them to more easily build cars that pass our crash tests. Ten years ago you could die from a 25 MPH crash because the cars crumpled so badly.

Why buy it when you can steal it. This is China, after all.

Oh, I'm well aware of the regulation requirements that would almost certainly stop any such vehicle from making it here... but it's nice to dream smiling smiley

Even if it was doable for $7,000, I'd look pretty hard at one... but at $10,000+... I'd go with a 3-4 year old used vehicle instead.

If it did come in around $5,000, I could be persuaded to learn to drive stick.... but I'd prefer an automatic.
