Bought Carbon Copy Cloner

Couldn't find my donation information, so I bought a license. Great software. Use it on several computers. Last day for the discount code was August 12, but even on west coast time it's now the 13. Maybe the discount will stay active for a while yet?

I see Carbon Copy Cloner is available as a free download. What is the advantage to making a purchase?

if you can still find an older version, it will run with some ads. The latest version (3.5 IIRC) will expire after 30 days.

I posted about this back in July, and Mike Bombich's spouse saw the post and made some comments about their decision to switch from donation-ware to paid software.

I also couldn't find my donation info. I wrote to Mike with possible old email addresses I might have used years ago. Sure enough Mike found my contribution from 2006! He kindly forwarded a serial number to register the new commercial version. Great service - great software.

Why did you choose CCC over SuperDuper?

I for one have been using CCC for many years and it has been reliable and simple to use. I tried SD a few years ago but saw no advantage over what I was familiar with. We tend to stay with the product we know and have relied on. Likely just as many using SD see no need to look at CCC.

IIRC, CCC lets you be more granular in choosing which files/folders to copy.

Same here; great guy. I've donated a few times (to make up for clients/family who took my recommendation but didn't feel the need to donate). Well worth every penny each time.

With the new CCC, you can create a recovery partition on a thumb drive - handy...

Unfortunately for me, doesn't matter if I can find my donation info. Since I use it for my own business, I have to buy a license for every machine it's on, even if I'm the primary user of all those machines.

Pretty sure there was discussion about a site license in that previous thread linked above......

I should clarify, I have zero ML Macs. I paid for the license to show support and to protect any upgrades moving forward. If nothing else, I'll ask Mr. Bombich if I can transfer the license to my dad when he migrates to Mountain Lion.

Who knows if I'll ever make it to ML?

Yep. It's $$$. And for a one person company, it's a few hundred bucks too much.
