Sux bro. Just got whacked myself a few weeks ago (technically I'm employed until Oct). 14 yrs with the company then they go bankrupt. Took out my whole group (strux & aero analysis). What remains is a minimal custodial staff just to maintain records (i.e. no one who can produce anything is left). Thankfully though, aerospace as a whole is doing so well that employees r throwing mad money out there. All I have to do is throw a dart at a map and pick a place to go. May just take several months off though (hey, I'm single with no responsibilities...who wants me to come tear up their part of the country?-lol). Good luck to u bro, what r job prospects like for u?

Enjoy the rest of your summer! I once go laid off in the summer. But on my way home, enjoying the sunshine with the windows down... they called me and told me it was a mistake and that I still had a job.

Being laid off seldom feels good. It scared the heck out of me, but much to my surprise, it turned out to be a good thing. I hope the same turns out to be true for you.

I feel your pain. I just got laid off 20%; cut back from a full five day week to four days a week. An instant hole in my budget big enough to drive a mini Cooper through.

My sympathies. Here's hoping your next job is at least twice as good as the last.

Exact same experience here. Was SCARED TO DEATH, and it felt like someone had died, but I couldn't figure out who. I had another job a few weeks later paying 70% MORE than the previous and only had a week off between jobs.

Turns out its a somewhat liberating experience. Now that it has happened to me, and I survived, it's not as scary.

Unfortunately, I HATED the new job with a passion - there was a reason it paid so much. But since I was able to get a new job once, I figured I could do it again. So I left the new job after 1 year and I took a year off to raise my 3rd child - best year ever.

Then I started looking again, and after maybe 2 months or serious looking and interviews I found a great job. It pays nearly as well as the last one I hated, but I don't hate it - which is worth a TON.

Moral of the story is that this really can work out in your favor. Best of luck to you, bazookaman!

I'm sorry. I hope things turn out well for you. After a few weeks panic, they did for me.

Losing my job was one of the best things that has happened to me in the last few years. My friends say so too. I am doing something far more interesting now--several things in fact since I am freelancing.

Everyone's rooting for you. And remember--you did not deserve what happened to you, whatever sinister voices might speak to you in the middle of a long night.

Well, I've been laid off before...3 times. The first 2 were VERY advantageous. Found a job before my severance ran out. And they were better jobs.

The 3rd time was right before the recession. So I found NO jobs for a very LONG time. And that was bad. Very bad.

This time (the 4th) I'm hoping the market has improved. As far as the wife goes. She is currently looking fro work too. She has been a stay at home mom for the last 5 years. And now that my daughter is getting ready to start kindergarten, she's trying to go back to work.

So much like the pre-recession time, we are both not working now. And that is frightening. Now, hopefully it won't be as bad. Hopefully.
