Bar Height Stools
Posted by: kap

There is no formal dining area nor breakfast nook in our one bedroom apt unit. However, there is a built-in kitchen bar counter that is 42 feet inches tall (measured from the floor to the top of the counter). How high should the stools be? We are looking to buy a couple off our local craigslist.

Fixed it!

42 feet? Get some extension ladders or loft another 2 floors on the apartment.

There's bar height and counter height.

Is your "bar counter" level with the other counters or is it raised?

If it level you have a counter height and if it 's higher you have a bar.

Subsequently you would purchase either counter stools or bar stools.

(I'm in the furniture industry.)

Standard height is 30". Your counter at 42" would work with that. This is the basic stool with no adjustments.

Our bar counter is raised. The kitchen section where the double stainless sink located is lower.

I think artie was trying to say that standard bar stools are about 30" high (give or take), and that's what you would use for your 42" bar-height counter. Standard kitchen counters are roughly 36", so for comfort, those usually require "counter height" stools that are about 6" less than that.

30" chairs from floor to the seat. Sometimes they are listed by size of chair instead of seat height. If you find anything that cost more than $60 a piece, get them on amazon new. They have a bunch of metal bar stools for about that range.

I have a couple of captains chair armed bar chairs with circular foot holds that would be ridiculously expensive to ship. Start checking out the local Salvies and Goodwill.

Kap,
We looked into this a while back and found that amazon has some very decent bar stools/chairs at reasonable prices including shipping.

Just another avenue to explore.

We are looking at 2 local CL sellers. These are the original pictures posted on CL list. I cannot enlarge them.

$45 for 3 stools including cushions. Sellers are relocating.

$35 for 2. Seller wants to get rid of them.

I will look at Amazon and local thrift shops as well. Thanks for the suggestions.
