I'm pretty sure if you shove that USB receiver into that slot, it'll never work right again.

That is some weird PS stuff going on there. That's the right spot for the USB port, but whoever 'Shopped the receiver onto that stock photo did a crap job of cleaning up.

Somebody edited a pic of the side of a G4 to move the DVI port forward and then edited it again to make it look like the transmitter was jammed in there?

Nah, they just left a grey-black blob extending off the side of it when they pasted the image over the USB port, giving the weird impression that there's some big hole in the side of the MBP.

Yea, looks like a "shadow" extending from the USB receiver and the shadow hits the Kensington security slot, making it all look like a weird hole.

Yeah. A poorly PS'd shadow is my guess as well.

Ah! Yeah. I see that now. 'Couldn't identify the thing to the left of the USB port.

That reminds me of the most bone-headed design feature of the MBP that has always bugged me: through several redesigns, Apple has placed the security slot where it interferes maximally with the use of a mouse.

That and when you run the cable back, it blocks all the ports. They used to put it on the back so it wouldn't block the ports.

I have a 2011 MBP 15" i7 with a Logitech Mouse using a USB receiver. No problems here.

Yeah, I have a Logitech mouse with the same receiver. The post was about the picture and how it appears to show the receiver shoved into a non-existant slot... but it's really just a bad Photoshop job.

actually I think it is just poor illumination in that scene, I don't think they made that shade in Photoshop. Look the shade of the mouse (not received) in the powerbook's corner.

I think they sharpened it (look at the hard edges on the dongle) and maybe applied the sponge tool to burn it and didn't realize (or didn't care) that it would mess up the shadow.
