Should I drop my grandfathered unlimited Sprint data?

I have a grandfathered unlimited 3G PAM (Phone As Modem) plan on my ancient RAZR.

I rarely use it but when I do, it's really nice to have. When I got the plan I was told I could drop it and re-add it whenever I wanted. The problem is the plan is so old it hasn't been offered for years. So if I drop it now (or suspend it or try to make any price changes), it's gone forever. banghead smiley

Even worse, since the phone is so old, Sprint no longer offers ANY data plan for it. Not that data (web browsing) on a RAZR is useful anyway. winking smiley

I plan on getting an iPhone 5 when they are available but for now I'm just trying to cut back and minimize my bills.

As frustrating as it is, I think I'm going to drop the data and if I need data I'll go with a Virgin Mobile USB stick or hotspot. Just wondering if I've overlooked anything.

is there any way to transfer the same plan to iPhone? tell them you don't want to make any changes, just replace the phone with a newer model. I guess they won't let you get away with it.

I'm almost certain that won't fly but it is worth a try.

You won't be dropping data "and" enjoying an iPhone 5 at the same time. They won't let 'cha do that. Plus, you'll be paying an extra $10 a month just because it's a smart phone.

Yes, I realize an iPhone or any other smart phone is a completely different game and my current data plan won't transfer.

No chance. I tried that with an even newer phone and they wouldn't let it happen. They wouldn't let me grandfather squat or carry anything over. New phone = new plan and only plans they currently offer. I talked to multiple reps, tried and tried...

The best you can do is get a AAA or corporate discount on your plan.
