the idea was discussed here recently.

Why?? Just curious. Not a big deal to me because I would use a non-protective power strip.

Two reasons: 1. The other devices on the strip will generate noise on the line and degrade the signal; 2. Devices that suppress noise or otherwise filter the power will degrade (or eliminate) the signal.

You're not even supposed to plug a second device into the wall outlet where you plug in a powerline>Ethernet adapter. Some powerline adapters include additional isolated jacks for those who need to plug in more devices.

They will actually work across circuits, depending on the house. This is why encryption is important in condo/apartment settings.
