A somewhat seedy neighborhood (pics)

This is Auburn Blvd. in Sacramento.

Taken with a point and shoot 35mm film camera (Nikon L35AF) and Ektar.

My favorite shot is the rent by the hour motel.

Low res scans for the web...

You are presumably a passing tourist, definitely not a Chamber of Commerce member.

I see nothing that you won't find in most cities plus everything looked pretty clean, both the businesses and the street area..

Your "seedy" neighborhood looks a lot better than my definition of "seedy."

Thanks for posting those. Always interesting to see somewhere else!

Reminds me a bit of South Orange Blossom Trail here in Orlando, but nicer looking.

Amen. Here in my town most of those store fronts would be empty. And we're fighting against yet another liquor store in or neighborhood.

You definitely captured the nicer parts of Auburn Boulevard. The lack of people in your shots makes it a bit harder to get a true picture of the neighborhood. At a different time of day, there would be hookers with that booze.

Hey, I saw a European deli in one of those shots. That's pretty upscale, isn't it?

Welcome to the machine.

If you're not a fan of strip malls and the cheap buildings they are usually comprised of and add in a lack of city planning and oversight , a mish-mash slapped on the scorched earth course of developement, it's not hard to see that as the blighted area of town. Add in a 40 year old krumbling K-Mart and a Dunkin Donuts and you could easily be on the other coast.

As noted above, it's actually encouraging to see all those stores open.
They are not, here.

Adding.
From the short shadows it must be the middle of the day and,
from the lack of human activity it must be and it appears freakin' hot.

Yeah, this is not a "Combat Zone", and it's definitely not the worst part of Auburn Blvd. It's "Somewhat Seedy". ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a higher concentration of tattoo parlors anywhere else.

I’ll say!! If I could do it instantly, I’d post some pics of Gary or Atlanta to help adjust your
definition of ‘seedy’ just a bit!!

That would include having bottles tossed at you in broad daylight for pointing a camera.
Lost a windshield doing that in FL in 2000, on the E. side of Lake Okeechobee.

There were sufficient posted warnings.

Agreed - those stretch the definition of "seedy."

Not too far from where I am just now (Manteca).

*sigh*

I know what seedy really is. Actually flat out dangerous. I spent time in the very worst areas of Washington D.C. when I was a kid. These areas were positively horrific.
