"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I think it is a great idea to your location to your sig. I added my location to mine.

We are technically now Milton, GA, incorporated just a few years ago, but many people still don't know where that is and our post office is still in Alpharetta, so I will go with that.

So maybe we can finally get an authoritative answer to the age old question, is it pronounced San Peedro or San Paydro?

English vs Spanish pronunciation is always a question as to who you are talking to. Correct would be Sown Paydro in Spanish. Ask a local how to pronounce Los Feliz, for example.

As to RgrF, Sepulveda became North Hills before the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Portions of the city became havens for hookers and drugs. The problem was corrected by changing the city name.
The change for our area to Northridge is boring and political.

Locals pronounce it San Peedro. It's officially a part of the city of Los Angeles, but the mailing address is San Pedro. And the police are, of course, LAPD. You can read about Pedro in Joe Wambaugh's recent book Harbor Nocturne.

Actually, the correct Spanish pronunciation is "Sahn PEH-dro."

The proper pronunciation of Los Feliz is "Lohs FEH-leez," but locals pronounce it "Lohs FEE-liz."

I am amazed how certain groups will purposely mispronounce place names.
Manteeka s/b Mahntekka
San Peedro s/b Sahn Peddroe (like Petro with a D instead of an T)
When Living in Austin, I was told that
Guadalupe was prounounced "waddaloop"
and
Manchaca was pronounced "Man-shack". An Austin DJ want to open a gay bar on that street, named of course "the Man Shack"

San Antonio, TX (in the old city)

"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater
