What are these made for?

Came across these when clearing out an older relative's home after they shuffled of this mortal coil.
They were in with a bunch of hand tools. Longer ones are 5.5", shorter 3".

I worked at a hardware store during college, but I've never seen the likes of these.

Does anyone here know what they are and/or what they're used for?

Look like tablecloth pins to me.

EDIT: clamp - [www.rei.com]

Although yours seem a bit thinner.

I used them back when I was flying in the military to hold maps. They have other uses. It is a big paper clip.

They are used with clip boards.

They slide over the paper (and clip board) at the bottom to keep the paper(s) against the board.

We used them at UPS many years ago... They come in handy outdoors. Keeps the papers straight and prevents the bottom from flapping in the wind.

I use them still to hold stacks of envelopes or paper.

They could also sub as pant-leg clips (bicycles) if need be.

Remember how when you were little
you could just rip off your diaper and
just run around naked and everyone
thought it was so cute and funny?

Anyway, I need bail money.

I just ordered some of those for my mom, she uses them to clip the pastel drawing she is working on to a board. IIRC they are money clips, banks use them.

They are file clips for lots of paperwork. In addition I use them to hold photos in place when securing them to mount board-specifically when using photo corners to mount images. I bet we'll get a lot of different uses from phorum members.

Where did you order them from? If you buy from an art store they will be far more expensive then if you buy them from an office supply store.

I think it might have been Amazon. I googled them and found them a lot cheaper than the art supply store she was trying to order them from.

I have also seen them used by woodworkers to hold down veneer when gluing to thin stock. As mentioned, they have a lot of uses besides the bank one they got their name from.

People used them in art schools to hold drawing paper on masonite drawing boards.
