Good deal? It is an APS-C chip...

It beats the refurb price by $20. I would say this is a RYF.

As I have stated before, sell this lens and get an 18-200mm or 18-270mm. The plastic mount will fail. Not if, but when. Let someone on ebay buy it and step up so you don't have to switch lenses and miss a moment.

Have you seen images from this chip? 24mp crammed onto an APS-C...

I was just about to pull the trigger on the d5100. Any thoughts on how that one stacks up to the D3200 on sale?

I'd be lost without the tilt LCD on the 5100.

Cameta has the 5100 refurb

The D3200 allows for manual exposure in the video mode. The D5100 has a flip out articulation LCD.

BTW, after you pass 12-14mp, it is the point of diminishing returns. I find the 24mp SOny chip in this D3200 and sony cameras to be severely overkill. Yes, I know that was a redundant statement. Not too many people really need 24mp. The price is great though.

I shot this while DP was busy changing lenses.

The D5100 seems to hit the sweet spot in Nikon's APS-C or DX lineup in terms of features and IQ. Both cameras are very close in size. The articulated LCD makes the D5100 a little bigger. I agree with PC that the move up from the fabulous 16MP DX sensor (basically the same pixel density as the D800's 36MP FX sensor) to the 24MP DX sensor gets you very little.

I own the D5100. However, if I were in the market for a DX camera, I'd either get the D5100 or wait for its replacement. The only reason I'd wait is not IQ, but hoping that Nikon might add one or two dedicated buttons to improve the UI and, perhaps, a touch screen.

Thanks all for the help. Can't really wait, since I just gave up my Pentax to my son, so I think I'll jump on the refurb 5100 and look for an 18-200 for walking around. The 3200 is tempting, but I still feel like the 5100 ticks more of my boxes.

That is why I recommend an all in one general use lens so this never happens again.
