"Mailbox" app

So I started using Mailbox (mailboxapp.com) on friday for my gmail account.

Many have expressed that they "don't get what the big deal" is with this app. I've been using it for 3 days, so here is my quick impression.

The app's main feature is that it makes it very simple to sort and organize emails. This way, you use your gmail inbox as a to-do list of sorts.

This benefits me because I have gotten emails in the past, where I think "i'll just get to that later" and it winds up falling through the cracks. This app helps guard against that.

Emails that hit my inbox that require no action, immediately get swiped and archived. For example, a Netflix disc ship notice. It's archived in gmail so i can always search for it, but it reduces the amount of clutter in my inbox.

Some emails have reference information in them. I put them in a list called reference. For example, an email with an account number in it.

You can also snooze an email so you can take action on it later.

One thing I don't like, but seems necessary - emails remain in threaded view. I've never been a fan of threaded view but I'll give it a try.

So far, so good. I will say though that in order to use the app to its full potential, you have to commit to the system. We'll see how it goes.

It's not a system for everyone, others may already have their own archiving/cataloging system, but it seems like it could work for me.

Wish there was an iPad version.

Mailbox relies on servers in the cloud to do things like send push notifications, make downloading email as fast as possible, and handle snoozed messages. Software that is server-based is susceptible to being overloaded and we want to keep this from happening. This is email, after all, and it needs to work reliably.
We’ve designed the Mailbox service to scale indefinitely, and have done as much load testing as we can. But we don’t know what we don’t know, so we’re using reservations to add people gradually.

To use. Download the app and wait in a virtual line to use it. I jumped on the bandwagon.

I was activated yesterday. Doesn't support aliases (yet) so marginally useful to me right now.
