How many (online) personas do you have?
Posted by: Buzz
Date: April 12, 2013 05:16PM
All the hoopla over DM going dark got me thinking about ones' online presences...
In the pre-gotta-register days over there, I used a handful of nicks, depending on the position I took on the subject at hand, or who else was involved in the thread... there were a few folks that I had issues with, so I created a couple of nicks to participate in threads where the contrarians appeared so that the discussion could continue w/o personal bias or conflict interfering.
I'm assuming many others have used multiple nicks for whatever their reasons were.
So how 'bout fessin' up and sharing your nick count, and underlying explanation for 'em.
No need to disclose the other nicks, unless you want to.
:-)
Have some fun.

I too used a few different nicks at DM before registration was required depending on what browser/computer I was using, but they were all variations of 'hal'

I now only use the one name...

which of you is Mackiller?

Just me, myself, and I.
All rolled into one DinerDave.

Never thought of using different nicknames, sounds like a cool idea.
Not sure I could keep them straight from place to place, I never claimed

Always just been SDGuy here; can't remember what my handle was at "the old place"

Also just one persona on the Model A forum I frequent, as well as on FaceBook & LinkedIn (use my real names there).

I do know some folks on FaceBook who use two profiles - one for "Personal" contacts, and one for "Professional".

I pretty much stick to this one except for a couple really old registrations where I used my real name.

Mine are all variations on rz. I'm rz1 in another forum because you had to have a minimum of 3 characters in your handle. I'm not controversial enough to have to worry about making up new personas.

On Mac forums, I've always used some variation of Paul F.
On other forums, I've MOSTLY used some variation of Paul F.
Years ago, I had a few other nicks on other forums... Don't think I've ever used a different one since DealMac required registration. It's possible I did once or twice... but if so I've long since forgot 'em.
I've mostly simplified my online life to just a few nicknames/handles.

I used to be afraid to argue with people using my "real" (lol) name. Then we had to register and I had to learn how to be obnoxious as myself. I got pretty good at it, too.

I only used one at DM, and have only ever used one here.

There was *one* time I created a second nick, "Your First Grade English Teacher" (or something very similar) in order to post some funny grammar correction. But I literally only posted one time with it. That was back at DM, not here.

Used mkiv at the other place I think (oh and at AS, I believe). Just switched it around for this place. Seemed appropriate. So, just those, really.
