“We will continue to return capital to shareholders through dividends, share repurchases, and cash used to net-share-settle vesting RSUs,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “We continue to generate cash in excess of our needs to operate the business, invest in our future, and maintain flexibility to take advantage of strategic opportunities.”

Put SOME of it to work on the Mac OS and some killer Pro apps and hardware.

Yes, if only they would generate features in excess of (or at least matching) their users needs. This sounds like Tim pumping up the stock price rather than actually making better products. He is NOT the man for the CEO position.

Be nice if they'd create a "Special Projects Division", staff it with smart geeks, tell them "build prototypes of cool tech toys", give them $500 Million a year in budget and lock the door for a year....
See what comes out.

Yes, bring back Gil Amelio!

Why? Gil was brought in to stop the bleeding, and he did that. He was not a visionary as far as products go.

Well, yeah... I'm sure they do...
But they need a NEW division, with a NEW staff. See what NEW ideas they come up with that the old team hasn't.
Offer a $5 million prize to the team with the best stuff. smiling smiley
