disease that causes horrific daydreams?

Does anyone know of a disease that causes the patient to experience daydreams? where the most horrible outcomes befall people they love. The patient knows it is just a daydream and knows that they are in some way directing the events but cant stop them from happening and at the same time is intensly disturbed by what they are imagining. I thought I was first made aware of said disorder from a tv show and remember it being hereditary and typically develops in ones 30-40s. Any ideas? TIA

All kidding aside, it does sound like an anxiety disorder.

Don't know a name. Medical and theraputic treatment may be of benefit.

For self-help, Pema Chodron's "When Things Fall Apart" gives training on how to detach yourself from painful thoughts without attempting to stop them.

It could be the side effect of a medication the person is taking. Sometimes when my mother took too much of her Parkinson's medication she would see people that weren't there. Sometimes she was aware that it was not real and other times she got confused and would be angry that the person wouldn't leave when she told them to.

I think it is definitely worth getting the opinion of a Doctor. Probably a psychiatrist would be best.

The disease is called "life".

Unfortunately, this disease is terminal. Even with the best efforts of the medical profession, it always ends in the death of the patient.

The best temporary anodyne is opium.

They are called "Daymares".

It sounds a little like obsessive compulsive disorder with an emphasis on the obsessive.
