Amazon Prime 2-day delivery is kaput for the Holidays. Bastiches.
Posted by: 3d

Two Amazon orders placed yesterday afternoon Dec 16.

Yesterday's update for both separate orders:
DELIVERY ESTIMATE Wednesday, December 18, 2013 by 8:00pm

This morning's update for both separate orders:
The following item will arrive by December 24, 2013.

I will have to complain and demand them make things right with a partial refund of Amazon Prime costs.

hmm, i was *just* looking at my orders. one is supposed to arrive tomorrow and the other Thursday, so I'll keep a keen eye on this. that sort of delay would p*ss me off, too.

I'm not all that happy about Prime lately with their winnowing down of what qualifies for free shipping (add-on items) and the pricing in general being higher than some I have seen in stores.

Yeah, it's definitely a trimming of the real benefits of Amazon Prime.

maybe. maybe not. i placed an order Black Friday afternoon. estimated delivery date was the following Wednesday. shipping confirmation i received sunday said i was getting it wednesday. all the while i'm thinking no way Amazon is going to take that long. dang right. my stuff was delivered Monday.

moral of the story: keep an eye out for your delivery person because your orders will probably arrive sooner than later. underpromise - overdeliver.

Ordered a stack of stuff yesterday on Prime, and it claimed it would all be delivered by Dec 18. Still says that at this moment. Are you sure your items weren't from third-party sellers?

Happens every year. Amazon has been good about getting stuff in by Christmas Eve, but I've yet to see a year when they were able to hit their normal delivery times for absolutely everything.

What does the tracking show? Has it left Amazon, and it's the shipper that's delaying it (possibly due to weather), or is it truly Amazon's fault not getting it to the shipper?

YMMV.... I ordered some items for teacher gift bags, and farging Fedex ground went from 8-10 days from California to 20 days. They may get a 'welcome back to school' gift bag instead.

Damn, even the local Edible Arrangements isn't taking delivery orders any more for before Dec25th.
Deliveries are already completely booked.
I have to go pick up my own Christmas present this year.
Sheesh, what an inconvenience.

Every year people wait till the last minute and then are surprised to find the shipping companies are overwhelmed AGAIN.
When are these large warehouse conglomerations and shipping companies ever going to learn !!
We're a first world country populated by fat entitled slobs for pete's sake !!
We need our stuff. Now.

My son was shipping some of his old video games this morning and normally he ships them First Class
USPS but this morning First Class going just 3 states north are saying Dec. 26th delivery date. He got
a decent price for one game that was needed by Christmas so he paid the additional for Priority.

3d,

It could be the season. It could be the weather. Since we're neighbors, I don't need to tell you this morning was a mess even if it wasn't heavy snow. I didn't really see much snow until about 7:00 or so.

I know it's the holidays. And delivery companies are getting slammed. And bad weather in some parts of the country as well... But I pay a premium for Amazon Prime. It's not a perfect world and things are late sometimes. But if something is going to be late, tell me exactly how late it will be so I can plan ahead with another gift maybe. Not some vague message that in essence means "You'll get it, when you get it, sometime before Dec 24."

I am planning to give an item in one of the orders as a gift. I have made plans to visit and drop off the gift. If the gift is late, I won't have a gift for one of the children. (Yeah yeah,, first world problem) But still a problem when I pay a premium for Amazon Prime.

Ohwell. I'll come up with a Plan B and hope for the best.

Call them, it happens and they're usually good about making it right. My experience is the opposite - ordered several things from Amazon Saturday evening (about 7pm ET) and confirmation said expected delivery Wednesday the 18th. Five of the items showed up yesterday before noon.

3d,

So do I but I also understand shipments can get delayed, especially at this time of the year. I'd love to always get current info from Amazon (or any vendor) but it doesn't always happen. I sometimes get the shipping info after an item is actually delivered. Just the nature of things. In looking at your post, something you may not have considered is that Amazon might not have current information. Amazon depends on the carrier for it. If the carrier doesn't provide Amazon update info, they can't provide it to you. Just food for thought.

Sorry to be a Grinch or a Scrooge, but...

Prime is a great deal, I can't tell you how many things I buy from Amazon in a years time.

It's a week before Christmas and people are upset about delays? Um... I know I'm not up on the newest technology, but doesn't Christmas come the same time every year?

Typical-wait to the last minute and then gripe because there's a snafu.

So the gift is late. It's the thought, isn't it?

agree smiley given what i order from Amazon in a year it works out to about $1 a shipment. i watch Amazon VOD just about every night. i read free books on my Kindle HD. $79 is a bargain.

OMG! Christmas is Dec 25, this year?

Why doesn't somebody tell me these things?!

I blame it on the iOS7 calendar!

$79 is a bargain.

Absolutely.

Given the variables of heavy seasonal shipping, and heavy seasonal weather, I can't fault anybody for delivery slow downs. Even the USPS has been doing some Sunday delivery. Sunday! Sunday!

Similarly, I have no sympathy for 99% of the people who wait until April 15th, to worry about paying taxes.

Sorry.

Must depend upon what is shipping and where it's coming from.

My UPS got here in 1 day with Prime.
