Huh. My gmail address works without the dot separating my first and last name...?

When I signed up for my gmail email address I wanted my first and last name @gmail.com = jerrydoe@gmail.com but it said it was unavailable. So I chose jerry.doe@gmail.com. Now I happen to find out that the version without the dot between my name works as well and I don't know why? Anyone have this happen as well or know why this works?

Thanks

I don't have the answer to your question, but I've found that I get far less spam with a dot somewhere in the user names.

G-Mail has a pretty good spam filter, but a dot here and there helps a lot.

I think there might have been an error on the not available attempt. My experience is that a "." makes no difference on gmail. I think you can even place a "." anywhere in the user name between letters and it will still work...

Yes the dot is not necessary. Someone posted about that 'here' about 6-8 years ago.

Gmail ignores the dots in the username.

If you have a common, or simple combo, it can lead to all sorts of fun receiving other peoples' mail. Or not.
