Discovered a beautiful actress today

It's always my luck to fall in love with older women. This time it is Myrna Loy who I saw in The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer which is very amusing. [www.imdb.com]

Here are some pictures of her I found on GIS. Before her I was in love with Dorris Day. I suppose I still am...

Doris Day wins. Every time. And this gentleman usually prefers brunettes.

Ill take Myrna over either aforementioned actress. Although I appreciate how DP's pic defies gravity.

A lot of the beauty of the actresses from the golden age of cinema was the photography style, lighting and film that was used. Photo shoots were an event, not something that just popped up on the daily calender reminder on the talent's iPhone.

A very good point.

Sorry, but I like beauty with brains. Hedy Lamarr is my all time fave, gorgeous, plus she invented spread spectrum technology amongst other things [www.women-inventors.com]
I love her most famous quote: "Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid."

This one is pretty good too; "“Men are most virile and attractive between the ages of 35 and 55. Under 35 a man has too much to learn, and I don't have time to teach him.”

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

LOL...
You know, I almost feel bad for Hedy Lamarr.

August- that is a wonderful photograph. My first thought was that it was of one of the more popular recent actresses.
I was wrong.

Which brings me to my gripe- all of the old pix up to now in this thread, (Including Hedley..), are not about the actresses at all. They are about artifice; lighting, hair styles, makeup, "gowns"... all those things that strip the personality and beauty out.
Give me natural anytime.
And Grace was a natural.

I find that so many of the classic actresses like Rita, Jane, Barbara, Ida, Joan, Donna, et al, were gorgeous women, where many of today's gorgeous actresses look like girls.

Maybe this is because we're dissevering the latter early on?

Also, they don't make movies like they used to. I miss that.

Excuse me, while I chase some kids off my lawn.

They were the first two my thoughts went to when I read the first post to this thread.

Actresses of the bygone eras were major investments by these movie corporations and no expense was spared to maximize their appeal. Every shoot was crucial.

Myrna Loy was a great actor. She had range but was very natural too. My favorite of hers was "The Best Years of Our Lives," which of course was a ground-breaking film.

Doris Day on the other hand was the end all be all of film superstardom. A true Triple Threat® on a mega scale. A major jazz singer, a flexible and aggressive dancer of all the disciplines ("Calamity Jane" people, I can't recommend it enough) and she was a dynamite actor. Best of all, she's still with us, living in Carmel and enjoying her life.

I did a tribute a bit earlier on Barbara Stanwyck, an actress I truly adore.

For future's sake, we still have Meryl, an actress that deserves every accolade she can get. Jennifer Lawrence is shaping up to be one for the ages I think. Check out "Winter's Bone" to get a sense of her range. Some women past the ingenue stage the I really like are Naomi Watts, Julia Stiles, Chloe Sevigny, Amy Adams, Elizabeth Banks, Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway among others. Natasha Richardson was a blow.

As far as natural versus "put together" goes, I think it's all about how well she can pull it off. In reality, it's just skin and what really matters is the woman she is and not how competitively she looks. Nikki Giovanni said "Beauty is in the eye of the beheld." I love women and beauty and sexiness and all that. But I do try to remember that when I'm appreciating women and their work and their physical candy.

She would be really old if she was in the shawshank redemption. Wasn't that movie from the mid 1990's?
