Thyroid Results: The Bad and the Good

In case any were interested (Guitarist?). . .

Following up:
[forums.macresource.com]
[forums.macresource.com]

Got the pathology results from my total thyroidectomy two weeks ago:

Bad: Large (1 cm) nodule on right, and several smaller ones right and left, were positive for papillary cancer.

Good: No spread beyond margins of nodules or thyroid; no involvement with lymph nodes tested.

So, reluctant patient though I was, I guess it was worth having the thing removed. Still recovering from sore throat and swollen neck. But slightly better each day.

Will have to wait and see whether endocrinologist recommends radioactive iodine treatment (usually six weeks after surgery).

Well, if you have to have cancer, at least you picked a type with a good prognosis. And you still get all the "survivor" cred!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Be patient while your endocrinologist adjusts your TSH level. I just wanted to sleep all day for six months.

I've been dragging around since the operation, but don't know yet if it's low thyroid hormone or just after-effects. Guess we'll see.

Thanks, everyone, for the good wishes, and the ice-cream recommendations. "Hazed and Confused" sounds about right, though "Dazed" might better describe the last couple of weeks.

Reminds me of Sir Topham Hatt's admonishments against "Confusion and Delay." That's an Obscure Literary Reference, unless you have little kids (or grandkids). Lord knows there's plenty of that around our house.

Glad it was caught early.

You and Mrs Drlynn have helped many folks here.
I am happy to hear you are also benefiting from good
medical practice and a positive outcome.

"The good and the bad" seems like the good outweighs the bad.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

The ice cream advice seems good and resting until you
get your strength back is also good thing.

I am sending you a ton of energy and love.

I pray you'll be safe here on out.
Everyone... heed this and stay on top of your health concerns.
I was diagnosed with a 90%+ mortality rate cancer, and took immediate action to fight and survive.
Two anecdotal data points for you all.

As an aside, I've also been living without thyroid production, and from that perspective doing fine.
