Thinking Printer.... Macs, iPad, Color, scanner, wireless ?

I'm thinking it's time to get Mrs. cbelt3 her own color printer that will not take up too much footprint, print photos, letter AND half sheet manual or tray feed, let her use her iPad without any fuss, and network to the home network. A scanner that will let her scan stuff off through the network to her Macbook or the Mini, or just to an SD card would be useful.

Use is strictly home, no B&W proofing, some photo quality but not a lot.

What does the phorum like these days ? It seems that HP has kind of a lock on the AirPrint compatibility these days.

Almost every new printer will print wirelessly from iPads/iPhones/computers, really take your pick.

Epson workforce is fine, best news is they take generic carts.

I have a Brother 835 (discontinued) myself, paid $99, not the best for photo printing, but I didnt really care. It was the $1 ink carts that sold me, since my kids print stuff like crazy.

Not sure if there is a "bad" choice as long as you go with a big name.

I just refilled the toner cartridges for my home Brother laser printer. If you are handy with a shop vac, it was pretty easy.

I'd stick with laser printers in general for your needs.

We needed fax capability, in addition to scanning, copying, and printing, so I sprung for this HP 200:

Color was a bonus. I don't know how well it will do on photo paper; haven't tried it.

Actually bought it at Staples, but Amazon's price right now is better than I paid.

So far it's working well. Light duty, still on cartridges the machine shipped with. Footprint is not huge, but it's quite tall, so looks large.

From the other place

Best Buy offers the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3640 All-In-One Wireless Inkjet Printer, model no. C11CD16201, which also scans, copies, and faxes, for $129.99 with free shipping. (Amazon charges the same.) That's the lowest total price we could find by $20. Features include a 3.5" touch LCD, 802.11n wireless, 19 ppm black, 10 ppm color, up to 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution, and Ethernet and USB 2.0 connectivity.
