Schadenfreude ... Retiree memorial announcements
Posted by: cbelt3

My company puts up announcements when a retiree passes away. Schaden - the sadness is that these individuals have passed away. Freude - when I see that the last two were retired for 41 and 42 years respectively.

A life of good work and then enjoying a long retirement... that's a great goal.

Agreed-but! The definition of schadenfreude is "pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune".
Doesn't sound like that to me. But that is my goal, too...

As long as they didn't spend the last 3 decades of their retirements wallowing in Lebensmuedigkeit.

I worked for 32+ years before retiring and claiming my pension. My goal is to stay healthy enough to collect said pension for at least that long! old fogey smiley

My mother has collected my fathers pension for 48 years. That is 13 years longer than he worked for GMC. I've wondered a few times how much has been paid out compared to how much he made.

Better than spending three decades wallowing in your own @#$%& in a nursing home.
