Looks very interesting. but what happens if you cancel Prime? does it support any non-Amazon streaming services (pandora, spottily, etc.).

Seems like it works with some non Amazon content according to the product page, but I definitely understand your concerns on vendor lock in.

Look cool, just trying to decide how we would use it?

I wonder how much of it's cost is subsidized by the NSA.

Always on, listens to every thing you say, is in constant communication with Amazon...
What could possibly go wrong?

all I see is this "Stream your favorite music services like Spotify, iTunes, and Pandora from your phone or tablet."

So bascially it is a BT speaker. It does not connect directly to Pandora or Spotify for example. My Pioneer A1 speaker ($40) got a firmware update a few months ago and now it is a stand-alone pandora/spotify speaker, in adition to Airplay. I only need the phone app to start playing, after that the phone is no longer needed. If I could sart pandora without the phone, it would be perfect. Oh well...

I don't have one of those either. Or an Elephant. An Elephant is fine in principle, and initially can be had for peanuts, and can be mighty attractive at first. . But as the famous saying goes:
"Just because I like to look at elephants, doesn't mean I'd want to own one."
(Nominating this as the most Misogynistic Thread of the day.)

But back to this Echo thing:

I've eaten worse.
Nice iPad.
"Siri, is there an Echo in here?"
