Garage door opener remote signal strength weak

Is there a way to increase the strength of a garage door opener remote? I practically have to open the door manually and walk inside the garage before the door will respond to the remote. Well its not that bad, but very irritating when you are parked right in front of the door and you have to wave the remote around before the door will open. Saying magic words only helps occasionally. Short of buying a new opener, is there anything that can be done?

Also, new battery in remote does not help. This is a Sears brand chain model.

Have you changed the battery to see if that helps?

Thanks for the link rgG. It does show me that I'm not the only one with this issue. I now have a tech support number I can call. Thanks again.

How do you know it's the remote control? Could it be the antenna (if such a beast) in the garage door opener?

Is your garage a faraday cage by any chance?

Just some thoughts.
