Besides going back to the store (with my receipt)...

...is there a relatively easy way to remove this $#^$%% security tag? Didn't realize they forgot to remove it until I got home. And no, no alarms went off in the store. Hell, now I almost wish they did.

P.S. The slightly chewed up part is where I half-heartedly attempted to go at it with pliers.

I'd bring it back to the store for removal.

Some of those things have hidden dye-packs in them.

Thanks. I thought the magnet thing might work, but no luck. I guess I:

1. will have to make a stop at the store on my way home from work this week.
2. should have bought some of those rare earth magnets I was thinking about getting a while back.

Fascinating tricks, but unless the store is an hour away it seems like it would be easier to just go back and let them do it.

That happened to my wife once. She bought a $600 dress for a special event and the evening of the event found that the security tag was still on it and she could not wear the dress.

A week later we went back to the store and returned the dress. Of course they offered to remove the tag ASAP but she had no need for the dress any longer and since she could not wear it for the event, we just took a refund

She bought a $600 dress for a special event and the evening of the event found that the security tag was still on it and she could not wear the dress.

A similar thing happened to a friend of my.

She bought some clothes and packed them for a conference on the other coast.

When she started to put on the dress, she found the tag. She tried a couple of stores to see if someone would remove it, but they wanted to see a receipt first.

So she got the tag off with a pair of scissors, but the dress suffered for it anyway. The damage wasn't visible so she wore it.

When she got back, the dress and security device went back to the store and she got a refund.

I don't know if it's a mens' then or a low-rent store mens' thing, but I don't every recall buying any clothing that had a security device attached.

And dye packs?! Wow.

I bought a winter jacket a couple of years ago and discovered one of those tags in the area around the hood and collar, after wearing it a couple of times. No alarms were triggered when I left the store with it. I went back to Tent and Trails and they removed it. Couldn't see a way to do it safely myself.

And when you consider most of the clothing these things are on were made by workers making pennies an hour in an Asian sweatshop, and the clothing will be essentially worthless when the next fashion season rolls around, it seems rather a silly rich man's conceit to destroy the clothing for the sake of protecting it.

But I digress.

I got a pair of New Balance shoes from sears.com with the tag still on. Tried to remove it and the dye pack went off. It was a real mess.

It's not a matter of conceit, and it's certainly not the clothing they're protecting.

Stopped at the store (Kohls) on my way home from work yesterday. Interestingly enough, the security buzzer sounded as I walked in the door. I said "Sure. If that had happened yesterday, I wouldn't have had to come back today!" The cashier didn't even want to see the receipt, although I had it with me. She couldn't get the tag off. Tried the device at another register. No go. Finally said "I'll be back" and went off toward another part of the store. Came back a few minutes later...mission accomplished.
