Visiting Vancouver B.C. at the end of May

My wife and I are going to Vancouver B.C. for three days, at the end of May, prior to departing on a cruise to Alaska. We are excited about the cruise, but also want to enjoy Vancouver. For those of you that have been to Vancouver before, what do you recommend we see/visit. Thanks!

The aquarium in Stanley Park is worth a visit. They have(had?) beluga whales there last time I visited.

Vij's restaurant--amazing food. And I like the neighborhood around there:

I remember that bridge in nightmares. Never again!

anyway, Vancouver is so lovely in May! I second Granville market and Stanley Park. There's also Victoria right next door, a pretty little seaside city with a very English feel. For flower freaks there's also Boutchard Gardens which will be at peak but some people think it's "too much."

Please don't patronize their aquarium if you love animals.

Commercial Drive in East Vancouver (though still in the city of Vancouver) feels a bit like Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. (Guess that can either be a good thing or a bad thing.)

Most people refer to it as Granville Island, not Granville Market.

There's Granville Island and there's Granville Island Public Market, which Granville Island is famous for, and the reason most tourists go there.

If your cruise stops in Victoria it would make more sense to do Butchart Gardens from the port of call. Even from the port will entail a bus ride north.

Make darned sure that the Canucks are not in the playoffs at that point. If they are... and if the lose, you'll likely be stuck in another riot.

flew in and out of Vancouver on the way to Lake Shuswap in British Columbia last October. Two great restaurants were the Salmon 'n Bannock Bistro and Blue Water +Raw Bar. Both great dining experiences recommended.

Stanley Park is great. Other mountain views of the Harbor are great too.

Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Gardens was somewhat interesting, although the City had some free garden areas adjacent.

Not sure of your interests or restrictions. Hope you have a great trip!

A few years ago some friends from Colorado visited Vancouver. One night we went to the Fish House in Stanley Park for dinner. On their own initiative they went back the following night.

A popular place is an outdoor fish-and-chips shack near Granville Island, Go Fish. There is frequently a line up, and it's not a bad place to wait. It's right by the berthing spot for the fishing boats.
