Desktop Background pictures have tuned purple and green

Hi everyone.

I went to Change Desktop Background from the Finder and deleted a few of my old Folders by pressing the "-" prompt on the screen. Today when I boot up the inital picture the stars seems changes( less detail) and all of my Desktop Background pictures have tuned purple and green. If I go to Change Desktop Background from the Finder all my choices are now purple and green. The Apple Toolbar is purple and green. The Finder Folders appear normal and this browser is normal. If I open the Pictures Folder and open these pictures in Preview they are normal.

This is a work computer G4 1.2GZ running Max OS 10.5.8 with a GrForce4 Ti 4600 video card hooked to a Samsung monitor via DVI.
I put the monitor on a PC-It's fine. I restarted the Mac but the problem persists. I reset the cable- no joy.

Is there a Desktop Background database that's corrupted?

Thanks in advance for your help.

John

Check two things:

- that screen resolution is set to the native resolution of your (assumed LCD) monitor
- that color depth is set to at least 8-bit

It is what it is.

Resolution is native 1400x900. Millions of color selected.

I found some of the pictures that I have collected and added have a correct display icon( is this the correct term?) in Decktop Background but all the Apple desktop choices are purple and green. However if I choose an Apple file for the desktop picture, it displays correctly in the finder.

Top Toolbar still Purple.

You may have a corrupt preference file somewhere.

make a new user account. log in there, make sure it looks normal. That would nail it 100% to a software issue on your user account, and not a hardware issue.

also look in System Preferences -> Accessibility (not sure exactly how it is called in 10.5) and see if all setting look right in there.

Do you know how to post a screenshot? If so, please do.

I created a new user and all the image icons in Desktop Background look normal, but the Toolbar is still purple. I'll put up some screen shots later.

uploaded screen shots the colors changed when I copyied these from the work computer G4 Mac OS 10.5.8 to my home Computer Intel C2D 10.6.8

The system Prederence Appearance at work shows the Appearance color Blue as Blue but the Highlight Color Says Blue but shows up as purple. This didn't show up in picture 3.
