Well do ya do ya do ya? And if they do kill off the PPC, will the older machines go up in value?

It's too soon to give up G4 support. G4 powerbooks were current until this morning and I'm certain that the (vast?) majority of Mac users still use G4s.

10.6 may require a G5 or better, but a Mac OS released in '06 needs to support the G4.

Yes....And if it supports G5's than it will support all G processors.

I;'m just asking because OS8, the very next OS after 7.6 immediately killed off the 680x0 machines.

Yes, support is guaranteed down to the 75Mhz 603 chip.

Maybe my memory is off, but Jobs wasn't there for the switch from 7 to 8. I don't view him as the savior that some do, but he's also not a complete anti-Christ. I don't think he'll allow the phasing out of the g machines (at least 4 and 5) for many years. They're money seekers like everyone else, but they do have a heart for their market share.

Of course 10.5 won't support G4 or G5 chips. Apple's selling PowerMacs, PowerBooks, iBooks and Minis right now with G4 & G5 chips in them. How are they gonna make any money if they continue to support those old Macs? Everyone will need to buy a new IntelMac to keep Apple afloat in these perilous times. smiling smiley

A person who uses 'than' for 'then' asks why people are so stupid? Please...

Mac OS 8.1 was the last OS that supported 68K machines. So Apple didn't abandon them THAT quickly...

There will be Universal Binaries for quite some time. Leopard might, MIGHT require a G4 (if only for minimum system bus speed or GPU specs), but it's just too soon to tell.
