Reminiscing about The Løpe
Posted by: CJsNvrUrly

I saved this as one of my favorite things he wrote (when we were on that "other" site) and came across it tonight.

"Dealchat hasn't changed my life: it has augmented it. No one here has changed my thinking: they have expanded it. Thus is Dealchat but an emporium for all who want to sell a thought or to buy an idea; to rent a theory or to donate a link."

"In all respects, Dealchat is a hotel of characters. In every respect, it is a home, while by any measure it is a place where the soul can take nourishment. -

The Løpe"

It still holds true here today.

I loved him.

[shouting] The Løpe! The Løpe! [/shouting]

Aloha, Ken

“I have developed significant attachments to several members even though I wouldn't recognize them if I sat next to one on a park bench. I'm often tempted when in an airport to walk around, hollering "The Løpe", to see if anyone other than the Homeland Security people will acknowledge me. ” - The Løpe

I liked The Løpe.

A lot.

It was a truly very sad day when I read of his reaching equilibrium.

It was one of those threads that I was afraid what I suspected, might be true.

I remember his son's posting telling us of his passing. I don't think most families realize what the community means to us.

I do share my stuff here with mrs. cbelt3, and she recognizes that I have 'virtual friends'. She does too on her hobby / interest forums and facebook groups, so we kind of 'understand' each other.

I also miss The Løpe. And Minty. And MacGurl. And GtDS. And others.

DealChat was a very special place. The cast of regulars knew it. I think the only person who didn't know/care was the owner of DealMac/DealChat.

DealChat was open on my browser all day and a good part of the night. That's where I went for a resource on problems with new OS updates, deals, opinions going on not just within the Macworld but also the world at large.

Well said MacArtist, and everyone else. I remember many who have passed on. The Løpe was especially memorable, as I was a DM newbie. I look upon those days with child like wonder.

Yep. Good memories. I don't remember GtDS though ... maybe before my time. This place is also very special.

Thought about the Spearmint tonight - was at the Padres/Giants game. Minty wanted to get together for a game down here at some point but we never got it together - he was probably watching (and laughing at the Padres) tonight.

Didn't mean to jack the thread - Løpe was an interesting character all by himself …

There is definitely a uniqueness to this place. A kindred of spirits, even in the occasional jab, usually including sarcasm. It's like we are all brothers and sisters.

I'll stop before I get too mushy...

That was Greg The Dog Sitter, later shortened to Greg. Perhaps you remember him but not the acronym?

Sometimes I wonder about the people who stopped posting but not due to death. I'm not keyed in enough to know which of them changed nicks and which have really stopped coming around. Lots of interesting characters have come and gone.

Thanks $tevie, the acronym threw me. Greg The Dog Sitter ... very familiar, and missed.
