How big is your iPhoto file?

My iPhoto file is about 58 gigs. I just moved it to an external HD, and backing up with Time Machine along with my Internal HD.

I was on a search for the trip to China in 2006, and finally found them and other pictures (many) on DVD's.

I saved them on DVD's as a way not to lose them, but I notice one of the DVD's has a brown edge, but is readable, and I usually make copies of DVD's when I was doing that.

Probably used a 35 mm to take these pictures, so no iPhone to iPhoto, then

Do most people keep all their photos in iPhoto, and then organize into albums?

I guess it would be a no brainer to import all of the DVD's and backup, and then keep the DVD's to have all pictures accessible in one place.

How big are some of your iphoto data files?

Not too impressed by the latest 3-4 versions of iPhoto. Don't use it.

I'm using iPhoto 11 version 9.4.3 on Lion 10.7.5 on this old late 2006 Black Macbook.

Waiting to buy a new Macbook.

I won't let Photos or iPhotos anywhere near my photos. They are organized the old-fashioned way. I have started to catalog them with NeoFinder. I view them in Bridge.

So you put them on a HD, and organize in Folders with Names, and then back that up?

No votes for iPhoto yet.

How do you get them off your iPhone

660GB, iPhoto 8, still on a G5.

14 years of digital photos, scans of my Grandmother's 80 years of photos, and all the crap that comes off the wife and kid's iPhones. I could easily dump 200 gigs if they would clean up their photos/videos.

I still need to figure out what to do with all the Mini DV tapes laying around.

89.5 GB.

iPhoto may not be ideal at times, but it works for our family. We all have access to the same photos and ones taken with our iDevices are all there automatically.

That's it. Folders for each source, such as specific cameras, film scans, flatbed scans, etc., within which are folders identified by date and main subject(s). For the dSLR pics, I use NameMangler to add a prefix to each file name that identifies the camera. So a name such as IMG1004.DNG or whatever does not exist in multiple locations But is specific to the camera that shot it: K3-1_ IMG1004.DNG, etc. The "1" is there in case Enough images are shot with a camera that the counter "turns over".

Backed up to multiple hard drives, and very slowly to Dropbox as well.

I use Photo Transfer App to move images onto or off my iPhone and iPad.

Using Image Capture and Automator, I basically do the the same thing as ka jowct with the exception that iPhoto is the final destination.

Aperture here, at 93GB. Ten years worth, since the family went 100% digital in circa 2006. I've been working to pare that down recently, as it is the main thing squeezing my 256GB MBPr drive.

Family snapshots are the hardest to trim because everyone captures a moment in time. For nature and scenery, I am working hard to only keep the best-of-the-best.

No iPhoto file, 280GB in an organized-by-date photos folder instead mostly because I started it before Apple created iPhoto. 330GB in the organized-by-date videos folder. Source hardware doesn't matter as there are at least a dozen total, all that matters is the date and event. What also matters is that it's immediately portable (no illegal characters, etc.) so that if I need to move to a Linux box or PC, I can do so with a copy and paste.
