Some of you may have noticed questions about El Cap and whatnot. It's because of new iMac: [www.apple.com]

It's teh snappy!

Thank you for your sacrifice - a newer, better model will be announced in a couple days.

Well, thanks to the "New Apple, Inc" you can also bet this newer model will have fewer buttons, ports, and interfaces, and despite being thinner it will not otherwise outperform the model you just bought.

Leader!

Sadly I'm waiting for a new MBP. I love my Mid 2012 2.3 GHZ i7, but I'm just itching for something new. I'm not sure that anything they announce will actually excite me, but a new machine is always fun.

Ha! Actually these iMacs use current generation CPUs from Intel, which has mentioned that no newer desktop-class processors will be announced until next year. The 27" iMac is a safe bet at this time.

Looking good, Wig. Can you add more RAM yourself, or is it sealed in like MacBook Pro now?

27" iMacs actually have user-replaceable RAM. An oversight soon to be fixed, I assume.

Hence my noted caveat - thanks to the new Apple, it's actually better to buy the older model!

And 64 GB ram limit too -- that is sweet -- double what my 2014 iMac has in it. Too bad its still major $$$.

Thanks all. I figured that even if new iMacs come out soon, I wouldn't want one. I always buy refurbed anyway and those wouldn't show up for a while.

I plan on adding another 16gb of RAM. I also need a new backup drive. And some kind of USB hub, maybe.

What are two 1TB OWC Mercury Elites worth used?
